Exterior views
Today Bob sent along four views of the exterior. This is the first look we’ve had of the tower room, so we’ll be making comments on it later (it’s easier for us to talk about what’s there rather than trying to imagine it).
This view is from the driveway. Guests will go between the fence and the garage and come out into the shade garden and the covered front porch.
Walking to the west, we look back at the library corner. You can just see the library terrace, which is an easy way to get to the flat part of the yard. It’s separated from the front porch for privacy.
Heading south down the hill, we look back at the back of the house. The storage area of the basement will have windows (perhaps like the bedroom above?), but they’re not detailed yet. Here you can see the screened porch with covered deck above, and all those south-facing windows. From this view you can really see that the building looks like it’s been added on to (one of our goals).
Finally, moving east we see the garage and the effect of the retaining wall. (The wall will eventually be angled to the southeast, instead of due south.) What’s not shown is the chimney from the basement lower level, and a small window on the main level (size and placement TBD).
I’m really excited to see this — I can really start to imagine the house on the land in a way that wasn’t possible before I knew where the windows were. We may make some suggestions (for instance, I’m not sure that 2×3 windows are going to feel right on the west wall), but I want to ponder for a while.

[...] First more-or-less complete shell of the new house have appeared. First post on project blog for our Nudge genetic programming thing has appeared. And many thanks for all the supportive voices we’ve heard in comments online and met at SXSWi regarding our (still intentionally) vague effort at Not An Employee. [...]
