All the thumbs from Alexander Głovatski’s The Pharaoh and the Priest

You also have plenty of time to tell me a story about The Child’s Day. Still. He said. Leadingly.

The Pharaoh and the Priest was just posted as a Distributed Proofreaders project. Here are some thumbnails of all the illustrations.

Another jab at publishers’ inflation

Library Dust’s post “Books on the Cheap” points out that the straightforward menu offered by publishers is often not the best way to get books at reasonable rates:

As a patron, I’m not at all unhappy with paying tax money to fund a library. Given that, I like to see the money used well; in my book that means finding cheaper sources for materials so that there’s money available for other things—like salaries. I like my librarians well-paid; they act better at the reference desk and I don’t have to fear that one of them is going to take a bite out of me to supplement her bag lunch. Just for fun, see how cheaply you can get selections from the bestseller list, especially in comparison to your current method.

MAKE: Blog: Collections

MAKE: Blog points to a WSJ article on collections and collecting and echoes a common worry: What will happen to the caches of esoteric objects in all the basements of America when the “young folks these days” are shown to have no interest in them?

That would be a question asked from ignorance, of course. Children and other descendants rarely follow the paths of their ancestors’ interests. What will happen is that instead of selling at local garage sales for a pittance, these troves will sell internationally, to people who actually want them.

The Highway to Tomorrow

Positive Ape Index presents a 1950s General Motors promotional video. More things these days need shark fins and pyrex-and-chrome fittings.
