  1. Is the “blended edi­tion” prob­lem the prob­lem of things show­ing up on bowd­ler­ized, badly edited, poorly sourced versions?

    Cer­tainly, that’s how it ever was, right — so the fact that there is a crummy 2008 edi­tion of a book is no bet­ter and no worse than hav­ing a crummy 1908 ver­sion of an 1843 book, just a dif­fer­ent his­tor­i­cal dif­fer­ence. The newly badly edited work is just a mod­ern counterpart.
