Is the "blended edition" problem the problem of things showing up on bowdlerized, badly edited, poorly sourced versions?

Certainly, that's how it ever was, right - so the fact that there is a crummy 2008 edition of a book is no better and no worse than having a crummy 1908 version of an 1843 book, just a different historical difference. The newly badly edited work is just a modern counterpart.
